Furio Giunta talking with Carmela Soprano in the Soprano family kitchen

Watch: Furio Giunta: The Enforcer Who Fell for Carmela

Mobsters Daily

Furio Giunta arrived from Naples as pure threat, collected money with a bee on his hat and total calm, and was undone by the oldest problem in the series: wanting what belongs to the boss. Watch the video above, then read his story.

Played by Federico Castelluccio, Furio is the show's window into the old country: a soldier from the Camorra whose manners, homesickness and grief for his father make him the most romantic figure in Tony's crew. His silent affair with Carmela, conducted in glances, gifts and one almost-kiss over a housewarming, is the closest the series comes to a love story, and its stakes are absolute: one wrong step and Tony kills him. Furio reads the situation correctly, flees to Italy, and leaves Carmela to a marriage that never recovers from the comparison.

Quick answer: Furio fell in love with Carmela, realized Tony would kill him for it, and escaped back to Italy, leaving the marriage permanently haunted.
